(Escape your Nine-to-Five!)

ey925 (click me)

Ha! Gotcha! Strange way to open a blog, yes…but stranger still, the coincidence you should visit. Seriously, think about it, why would you, in the course of perusing whatever you were perusing, end up visiting a blog entitled ey925 (escape your nine to five)? It isn’t an appeal to fate or destiny I make (that would be gimmicky and desperate), but rather an analysis of your appetite. Stay with me for a bit (I know we all have the attention spans of goldfish these days, but swim strong, little fry).

This is now (probably) the stupidest suggestion a blogger could ever put forth to his reader (my editor is going to kill me). You’re going to close your eyes for 10 entire seconds, think about the title, why it grabbed your interest, and then (this is the important part) come back and pick up where you left off.

Did you do it? Fantastic. Escape your nine-to-five, has it hit you? Whyyyyyy did you come to this blog? Look, I like to fish (quite a bit), and as every fisherman knows, no amount of “chumming the water” (dumping free bait) will attract the fish you’re seeking if the bait is of the wrong variety. So (dear fish), I ask again, why do you find yourself here – “on the hook”? WHY. DID. YOU. BITE?!?!

Is it a bad boss? A low salary? A longing for adventure? An abhorrence of the cubicle? A contempt for one’s coworker (or coworkers)? The unrealized agony of unfulfilled potential? (calm down, you egomaniac) Do you want someone to cheer you on and tell you all your hopes and dreams are possible if only you’d believe in yourself? (relax Disney devotee, they ain’t) Is it Sharon? Robert? What or who is it? I don’t know, but you’re here – and (if you’ll stay with me) I want to help you figure out why, and maybe, just maybe, even how to…but I’m getting ahead of myself.

I am currently in the process of escaping my own nine-to-five. I’m still there – hence the “ey925” – figured it looks “official” enough to pass muster, just in case I decide to blog during work lunch and Sharon happens to catch a quick glance (if your name is Sharon, I’m really sorry, you’re a victim of circumstance and I apologize). I have my reasons for wanting to escape my 925 (which I will relay, in time), and you have yours (which I hope I will come to discover as well).

Over the course of the next week, I want you to really sit and ask yourself – “why did I end up reading the ey925 blog?” Maybe you’ll think about it, maybe you won’t. Perhaps you’ll never visit again, or perhaps this is the start of something new. Who knows? Only one way to find out. I’ll be posting weekly at a minimum (or trying to) every Friday or Saturday night. Welcome, and I hope you’ll come along for the journey!
